The product came in a good condition and in time as stated in the order confirmation. All information about the book and description of the book condition were very clear and true. For example, only a minor scratch in the cover was stated, which I could not have even seen if not looking so carefully at it. The defect is almost nothing. For me, it is a good seller.

About the Author
I was born in 1925, the very middle of the Roaring Twenties, but there is not much of those left in me. I remember a lot; our family was very religious, and some young nuns visited us on the way to entering the convent. One of them gave me my first water-pistol, and I went around shooting Sisters of Saint Joseph all afternoon. I am able to date this event as August of 1929, two months before the Crash. I remember the great Dirigibles. They were longer than a city block, and sounded like a vacuum-cleaner. The Akron, the Macon, even the mighty Hindenburg, passed low over our house, each on the way to its destruction. I ran away from First Grade, out of fear. I must have gone back, because at age 41 I was still going to school, after getting a Master’s in Russian Studies, a Master’s in British Literature, and finally a Doctorate in Irish Literature. I entered the seminary at Notre Dame during the Battle of Stalingrad, and was never allowed to hear how that ended. I conceive of my life sometimes as one long effort to learn how the Battle of Stalingrad turned out. I was taught by remarkable men, but it was strange being awakened at 5 am, to translate Cicero’s De Senectute from latin: old men teaching little boys what Cicero said about how to be old. I was the Eternal Little Seminarian. Anne Francis says that I am still a Little Seminarian, and will never get over it. When I was very little, a streetcar-man friend of my Father tossed in at our front door a market-basket full of old National Geographic magazines. I saw that there was a world, outside Pittsburgh. I determined to go see it, not an easy thing to do if you sign up for the Vow of Poverty. But they sent me on to study, and I got a copy of “Europe on Five Dollars a Day.” I rode a little moped that got 173 miles to the gallon. I was a fool, for I took it on the Autobahn, a moped in among the Mercedes. When they shot past they first pushed me one way, toward the breakdown lane, and then pulled me back again, sucking me into traffic. I went to the US Army camp in Grafenwoehr, Germany as a substitute Chaplain. I left the priesthood. At first I wondered if I left because of the Beatles. But no, it was not the Beatles. I left because though I loved the Old Things I had been raised on, I no longer was able to believe in them. I married Anne Francis, the best thing I ever did in my life.

An Exceptional, Insightful Read

"Leaving: A Memoir " is a well-written, heartfelt book about Frank Phelan's personal journey in life from the seminary at Notre Dame to his marriage to the former nun, Anne Francis Cavanaugh. I found it to be an exceptional, insightful read, in fact, for me a book that I could not put down.

After a life time of commitment, preparation, and dedication to the service of God in the Catholic Church, the decision to leave the priesthood, the convent, and the Church in mid life has to be a gut-wrenching decision, one often not understood by many. Phelan, through his thoughtful, sensitive approach to the subject and his understated, elegant writing style, narrates the long, agonizing process and events that led him -- and Anne Francis -- to their separate decisions to leave. In the process the book gives a window into the inner workings of the religious life, a Catholic university, and the decision-making practices of the Vatican.

The book is not without lots of laughs. Phelan's low key, subtle humor comes through on nearly every page. Whether it is the telling of the pranks of young seminarians, to explaining why priests wear hats in Rome, to the experiences of riding through the Irish country side on a motor bike, or to the coffee-shop meetings in Dublin, his humor is always evident.

So too, the book is a love story. ... Read the book to learn how the beautiful love between Frank and Anne Francis slowly develops -- and endures.

As this unlikely love story unfolded, I was inspired by Frank and Anne-Francis' courageous struggle to find a path that would allow them to be true to their deepest values. A wonderful and memorable story, shedding light on all the church issues in today's headlines.

Very Helpful and Full of Content

This book covers it all: causes of reliability, measures of reliability, component modeling, system modeling, system analysis, and system optimization. It even has a great primer on distribution systems from a reliability perspective.
The great thing about this book is its ability to bridge the gap between theoretical treatment and practical applications. Although it is full of algorithms and equations, all are presented in the context of real applications and real results. It has truly broadened my understanding of of the subject.

A Great Combination of Rigor and Practical Advice

This is by far the best book I have seen on reliability planning, evaluation and engineering of electric power delivery systems. The book is well organized and very linear in its progression through its topics, so its makes for a very good textbook or self-study guide, as was the case for me. It has an extremely comprehensive index, which means its should serve as a good, quick reference in the future.
The book is pretty rigorous, and has a good bit of equations and theory, but what I appreciated is that there is a lot of common sense and good recommendations throughout, plus good data and tables on reliability, equipment, expectations, etc. I learned just a lot about distribution systems and reliability, and what to expect and how to make improvements in the real world, from this book.
But what I think is unique about this book and its greatest value was its combination of rigorous analysis of system configuration and indidivual equipment focus. You find a lot of stuff written that focuses on one or the other. A Great Combination of Rigor and Practical Advice

This is by far the best book I have seen on reliability planning, evaluation and engineering of electric power delivery systems. The book is well organized and very linear in its progression through its topics, so its makes for a very good textbook or self-study guide, as was the case for me. It has an extremely comprehensive index, which means its should serve as a good, quick reference in the future.
The book is pretty rigorous, and has a good bit of equations and theory, but what I appreciated is that there is a lot of common sense and good recommendations throughout, plus good data and tables on reliability, equipment, expectations, etc. I learned just a lot about distribution systems and reliability, and what to expect and how to make improvements in the real world, from this book.
But what I think is unique about this book and its greatest value was its combination of rigorous analysis of system configuration and indidivual equipment focus. You find a lot of stuff written that focuses on one or the other. OK, but not worth the money

This book wasn't great; it was just okay. Personally, the book went just a little too quick for me in the sense that Venus and Serena's early life wasn't discussed in much detail; only their current tournaments and lifestyles were written about in more detail. Other than that one major criticism, though, there were a few good elements to the book. It was very informative, and it would be worthwhile to read if you are doing a biography on Venus and /or Serena Williams. Nonetheless, all in all, I rate this book a three because there are definitely better books on the Williams sisters out there. Save your time and your money, unless you want a dozen or so quick facts about the Williams.

I read Venus and Serena:The Grand Slam Williams Sisters.It talks about Venus and Serena playing against each other and their debut as pros.It also gives you some pointers on playing tennis.In the book, they include cool facts about them. I didn't like it when they gave the scores, because they didn't always say who's score was who's!

John Hall can still remember the first book he ever read. It was Harry The Dirty Dog. Since that day, he's always loved reading. When he was in fifth grade, he decided he was going to be a writer when he grew up and wrote his first novel, The Mystery of the Leopard's Eyes (unfortunately, it was never published and to this day, still sits in his desk drawer). But years later he did become a published author. John grew up in Brooklyn, with a younger brother and twenty-one cousins (yes, 21!), but now lives in New York City.

to research, torture, and abuse under the guise of national defense and security.

Also provided is a foundation for models on maintenance, renewal, and minimal repair; access to the treatment of censored data and the many facets of reliability testing; and an outline of probability plots, curve fitting, maximum likelihood estimation, and goodness-of-fit tests. Unlike other R&M books, the Ebeling volume assumes the student has limited familiarity with probability and statistics. In order to focus on R&M concepts and applications, these principles are defined and developed as needed. Also included are numerous examples, illustrations, and exercises, which are supplemented by software that will assist with the performance of numerous data analysis calculations and the implementation of many R&M models.

Excellent introduction to reliability and maintainability

This is one of the best written reliability books published. It is a great handbook for the practitioner, and an even better book for the novice. It should make a great addition to any Electrical, Mechanical, or Reliability Engineer's bookshelf. If someone is preparing for ASQ's Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) Exam, this is one of the three books they should own. My only complaint is that it does not address R&M of production systems, which is where most other texts fall short.

Great reliability text!

I had the pleasure of having Dr. Ebeling as an instructor in college and he taught me reliability engineering. Not only is he easily understood in person, but he is also very clear in his writing. Dr. Ebeling makes reliabiliy an understandable science.

Excellent reference

An introduction? Not hardly, for the practioner this book is outstanding. Reliability is not alway the most simple of subject to understand. If you have a good math background and need to have reliability explained or demonstrated this book is an excellent choice. The mothods and calculation are presented in a very systematic manner that makes it easy to follow and understand. Kudos to the author!
