Very Affordable For All !

Carpenter provides some excellent simple dinner recipes. Examples are Quinoa w/Kale, Mushrooms and Sweet Potatoes and many others. A theme of the book is to have less meat like in "meatless Mondays". Increasingly, more dieters are going veggie as a source of proteins and antioxidants.

The meal preparation is very detailed with the time listed, ingredients and food content in grams. For instance, the number of grams of protein, sugar, fiber, fat and carbs are all listed prominently. Some preparations like the Quinoa w/Kale are non-gluten. These preparations are important for people who are sensitive to gluten or have gastrointestinal issues aggravated by eating gluten-based foods. Foods like quinoa may help with keeping the C-reactive protein (marker for inflammation) within the reference range.

There are important substitutes for sugar; such as, anise, cinnamon and stevia. Overall, Carpenter's book will be very helpful for health conscious dieters who enjoy eating fine food without the penalty of too many additives or non-organic content.

Well if you're anything like me and have looked for healthy recipes, then you have spent ALOT of time on Google only to find the SAME OL' recipes - just with different names, slightly different ingredients, and not healthy AT ALL.

Well, here's the thing. I purchased this book on November 20th. At the time that I'm leaving this review it is Nov 30th - Ten days later. It's days later and I have ALREADY used this book every single day (INCLUDING THANKSGIVING!!!) I started out on the first day, figuring just to "try" something out. It's usually within the first day or two that I can tell if I got a "good" cookbook, or just a "google" cookbook. Easy to say, I got "REAL" cookbook. This is without a doubt, indeed a REAL cookbook in every essence of the word.

My first choice was "Feta with bean mash and beat root salsa dish. I figured I'd try something simple, yet unique - so that I can tell the difference in what I'm doing. Whether it's good or not, or if it's just me and my poor cooking. My cooking is poor, anyway - but following the directions here proved to be quite delicious. Each dish/meal is presented in an easy to follow matter. First, the author gives you a time frame of how long the dish would be to take. It said that it would take more 10 minutes to prepared and 7 minutes to cook. It took me 15 min to prepare, but that's because I read everything 3 or 4 times before I do anything.

Next it lists the incredients - along with any added detail or characteristics needed. Again, pretty darn easy to follow.

Next is the preparation section. Usually these instructions are condensed into 7-10 steps. Amazing. Well written, logically formulated and easy to emulate. My first "experiment" came out GREAT. Then there's a "nutritional check" at the end of each meal, with a calorie count, fat, cholestoral, protein and carb count.

Some of my other favorites (or favourites - fine for the U.K., too ;-) include the Spiced Salmon w/ Mustard Sauce, Fish Tacos with Sesame-Ginger Slaw, and Grilled Pork steaks in Horseradish crust. Fed some of these two my VERY PICKY little nephews and they were DELIGHTED.

Kudos to author Howard Carpenter on a book of EXCELLENT healthy dinner recipes!

new exciting recipes in an interesting book format

I really enjoyed this book that was organized in a rather unique way. You have a weekly plan and the chapters are divided up by days of the week. Each day there is a goal for the type of meal you should have. I really liked meatless Mondays, I grew up vegetarian and was happy to see the week starting out veggie. I didn't like chapter 3 "Wednesdays special" mostly because the majority of all the recipes were Pork. I don't eat any kind of pork so I found that chapter rather useless for me. That's just me though, other people might wish every day of the week was Wednesdays special. I like how each recipe has a prep time at the top of the page which is important to me because if I only have 30 minutes to prep a meal I want to know if this is going to take 30 min or 50 min ahead of time. The ingredients are also listed just under the time to prepare which is helpful knowing if you even have everything to decide if you are going to make it, go get what you need or find a recipe for things you have. I also enjoyed the variety of different dishes, some of which I have never heard of before. I'm all for trying new things and coming home to prepare something new is always exciting.
