Quick read. Collectively, I read it in about a day.

For the most part, this book is just an extension of two of her other books: Pink Lips and Dusty Crowns...just more developed and better organized. As with her other books, the author tends to make blanket statements and create bizarre scenarios based on her personal experiences. "You'll do a, and then b will happen. You'll begin to feel c, and it will result in d". That's fine if you want to share your advice based on your personal life story, but like Oswald C. Chambers says, "Never make a principle out of your experience". I can appreciate her candor and advice, but I don't believe in blanket statements.

Secondly, I find it so that many married Christian women talk about single, independent Christian women as if being so is a sin. As if a woman who relishes her independence isn't fully walking in her calling. I myself being a proud member of that demographic find that to be both offensive and off base. Not every woman desires marriage, and there's no sin or shame in that. I don't believe that God favors the Titus 2 Woman over the Acts 16:14 Woman.

What I felt in this book more so than in her other books was humility. In the author's previous books and blogs, she seemed to speak from a false place of mastership. "I've mastered this. We've mastered that." In this book, she was more honest about her personal daily struggle that goes along with living for Christ.

That's relatable. That's realistic.

I also liked the fact that there was a central thought in this book, unlike her previous books wherein the chapters didn't flow and some things seemed ill placed. The chapters of this book worked together to collectively remind the reader to get back to God.

Although I found this book to be repetitive in and of itself and of her other material, I gave it a higher rating than her previous books because I got more out of this one book than I have any of her others. We all find our Christian selves in the regular, human struggle of laziness, doubting God, and everything else that muddies this walk that we're on--resulting in us becoming runaway brides. It's good to get that "Get back in line" wake up call every now and then.

With all things considered, I do believe that the author is sincere in her mission to draw others to Christ, just human.

If you've listened to her messages, you know her heart with this book. She honestly wants you to stop focusing on the things of this world and focus on Christ. I'm not sure why you would rate this book anything less than 5 stars. There are many messages in this world, but this one is actually telling you not to run away from Christ.

I have never been inspired by any book to the point that I actually change my ways but this book did it for me because she breaks things down instead of using big words that I honestly don't understand and by using real life scenario s we can relate to..I thank God for reaching me through her ..This book has changed my mind frame tremendously and I am now ready to really live for God on the inside instead of pretending on the outside

This is an excellent book that can claim to be both an introduction and a comprehensive overview of "true lean".
Andy's depth of understanding of the subject and his passion for seeing Lean adopted in its purest form shines true.
I highly recommend it, particularly to those who are rightly sceptical of the many instances of Leans bastardisation in the hands of the misinformed or novice practitioner.

We hear and listen to all types of music throughout our travels such as at our work place to help us meditate and relax. At our dentist offices, supermarkets, shopping malls, cookouts, wedding receptions, intimate moments, while driving or washing our automobiles ect. He explains the therapeutic value of music during a stressful/non stressful day, even its effects in reviving commatose induced patients just by triggering music through its sound capabilities.
Lamar Boschman simplifies, articulates, and differentiates it's orgin, background, and history, as well as helping it's readers to recognizing and understand what kind of subliminal messages "MAY" be inside it's lyrics whether instrumental music, classical music, Jazz, R&B, Rock, Rap, Turkish, Russian, Swahili, Jingle Bells or a Michael Jackson tune.

The Rebirth of Music by LaMar Boschman is an excellent book for anyone who is in ministry or planning on going into ministry. I have enjoyed reading it. I used some of the information to do a Music Workshop.

The importance of Excellence in Ministry is a great point that the book brings out. Why? I am so glad you asked. Music plays an important role in the church service. Music is an integral part of each service, divinely appointed by God as a ministry. Music can reach the unsaved without a word being preached. Anointed music has the power to heal in so many ways.

This book also gives a list of 839 reference scriptures about music in the Bible.
I would recommend this book to anyone in Ministry, and not just the Music Ministry.

An excellent textbook for first-year college students.

This book provides a good range of diverse materials for a teacher in a first year English course. There are multiple genres and themes, a section of famous paintings for discussions (useful for discussions on literature and art), among other helpful features. The Conscious Reader is an antidote to readers which have the same standard writing for student use.

The book does provide a diverse range of genre. It works well as a literature textbook. However, the quality of the book binding is poor. Students purchase this $50+ textbook only to have chunks of it fall out before the end of the semester. I suppose the publisher sells more textbooks that way, since few books are resold as used books, but I can't recommend it for just that reason.

and while I have always loved the Conscious Reader in general

I've been an AP Language instructor for about 6 years, and while I have always loved the Conscious Reader in general, I feel that this recent edition dropped the ball a bit in terms of the relevance of the texts. While it maintains many of the more "timeless" essays, and adds some interesting voices (I particularly like the del Toro & Hogan piece), the editors seemed to make a weak effort in other areas. The "Popular Culture" section is probably the worst offender, with essays on IM, Tamagotchi, and Twilight that were irrelevant before the book left the printer. Joe Woodard's "Pumped, Pierced, Painted, and Pagan" is still a great read, but much like Rojas's "Bootleg Culture," we're about 20 years past the relevance of the issues they raise.

I think the 11th edition was a bit stronger--the loss of Annie Dillard in the 12th edition is a bit negative. The 12th maintains a lot of the strong pieces from the previous edition, but I feel like the editors really need to reevaluate the longevity of many of the pieces they choose--publishing 12-20 year-old pieces on popular culture results in a lot of useless material. I'd love to see more literary journalists in the CR; John McPhee, Susan Orlean, or Tracy Kidder would be just some positive additions.
